Formatting and Foreword
Some things to keep in mind when reading this section
Formatting
Notation
Combos in this section will be written in numpad notation. Any players unfamiliar with this format should refer to .
Labeling
Combos will be labelled in the following format:
[Section].[Combo Number] // [Damage] // [SP Advantage] // [Small Note]
For example, a combo could be labelled with the title: 1.3 // 2011 // +30 // Note Oki
This is to ensure that any combo can be precisely referred to when asking for assistance.
Terminology
There are a few phrases I use in this section whose meanings may not be immediately apparent to new players:
Starter: The starting button or series to start a combo
Convert/Conversion: The act/process of turning a hit into a combo
Salvaging: Routing from a bad starter or bad input into a more reliable or more favorable combo
Where to Start
Absolute Beginners
For those who are new to P4AU and to Rise, I recommend starting out with the starter combos exclusively and playing a few matches with them before moving onto the other ones. While it may seem counter-intuitive to learn basic combos that will see little use in optimal play, it's important to have an easy starting point to refer back to.
Beginner-Intermediate
For those who have played other characters or already grasp how to play P4AU at a semi-competent level I recommend learning the core combos to start while also learning the starter combos as a way of salvaging bad starters. Then, learn some of the more advanced routes at your own pace.
Anyone else
For those who have a confident grasp of how to play the game and have some experience with Rise, review the starter and core combos for any that you have not already learned, and look into the more advanced and niche routes. Feel free to start wherever you like.
