🗡️Pressure Notes
Your General Tools
Notes (236[A,B,AB])
Used in setplay
A version is -10 on block, B and SB are +2, which makes SB a good frame trap tool.
Spawns notes which can be used to pressure an opponent or to wall someone out when exploded with B normals, or A/B specials.
j.5B
Great air approach, can occasionally stuff anti-airs
Can be cancelled into j.5A in the air for a double overhead
Large enough hitbox to be used in fuzzy setups
236C/236CD
Both are great tools for either poking an opponent at midrange or baiting reversal options. Grants good damage in the corner if catching an opponent.
Fast options if the opponent is scanned and is too close for 236D to be safe
236D
Forces the opponent to block on scanned condition if they cannot outrun it or avoid it, grants a huge amount of plus frames if they do.
If your opponent blocks this high in the air without a double jump or air dash, you can air-unblockable them on the way down with 2B
Arrow Rain (22[A,B,AB])
Can help in covering yourself for approaches or fullscreen setups (SB can be avoided with forward superjump)
Good tool to cover fullscreen pressure
Tracks the opponent on scanned condition
Scan (D normals)
Can be held, which threatens a fullscreen hitbox to allow you to safely run up to the opponent. (Make sure to not make empty threats though)
On hit, inflicts scanned condition which can further allow Rise to close the distance or keep her opponent away
If you're having issues with opponent rolling scan, use 2D to put the most active part of the hitbox close to the ground.
Orbs (236236[C,D,CD])
Wins neutral for Rise for as long as the super remains active (You can still be hit, dash and jump block to close distance safely)
Can press C/D to set an orb to explode on the opponent, can use this to cross up the opponent without being too risky
25 second cooldown, use wisely
Setplay
Generally, at midscreen you will end your combos in a knockdown and follow up with 236B (B Notes) to make the opponent block on wakeup.
You will need to be prepared for when your opponent chooses not to block. If your opponent:
Mashes:
They will be hit on startup by 236B. From here you can loop into setplay again by doing another combo.
Reversals:
They will hit you if you run up and just press a button to continue pressure. In order to bait this, you can either just block after 236B to cover reversals and rolls, or do a microdash and block while pressing 5A to cover reversals while still continuing pressure.
Rolls:
Currently, this seems to only be punishable by calling it out specifically by hanging back after 236B. Will need to lab to see if you can call out reversals and rolls by using the above method.
Jump Cancellable Moves
5A
5AA
5AAA
2B (After 2nd hit)
Adapt Pressure to the Matchup
Rise works better at different ranges depending on what character she is playing against.
For instance, Rise's best matchup is Kanji because she has tools that can effectively keep Kanji out of his effective range while remaining in hers. For this matchup, Rise's effective range is the midrange where Kanji cannot threaten lightning normals, Rise's disc can keep him accountable, and his grabs will not connect.
In one of her worst matchups, against Margaret, she is at her best in close quarters because Margaret has a very powerful midrange and fullscreen presence that can interrupt Rise's setups, and partly because Margaret is limited in her meterless reversal options.
In both of these matchups, Rise is at her best in different ranges, which can vary in different amounts. While there will undoubtedly be exceptions in match-to-match situations, where maybe it is best that Rise stay away from a Margaret and set up zoning pressure, or maybe being up close in Kanji's space may be her best option, the point still stands that Rise has to adapt her pressure to the matchup.
This may hold in general, but also don't forget that you're not only playing against characters, but also players. If you perform well at a certain range against a certain player than another playing the same character, be sure to exploit it and pressure at the range that works best.
